Blogs: Mommies are Women. Women with Children.
Remember Marlo Thomas' Free To Be You and Me singing "Mommies are people. People with children. When mommies were little they used to be girls. Like some of you. And then they grew and now Mommies are women. Women with children." When women become mothers, they enter a whole new dimension of self. A new role full of complexity. It can be difficult to integrate this 'mother' and 'responsible' self in with all other parts she knew before. The little girl self of all ages, the teenager, the young woman, working woman, lover, partner, independent woman and seeker of life. When all parts get recognized, nourished, spoken to and played with, women can be more joyous and fulfilled mothers and partners. Motherhood asks women to give out energy to sustain and give life to their child. Equally, they need to be nourished, replenished with energy and vitality to feel full, alive and abundant with energy to give out. It is a circle with no beginning and no end. All of it sacred. How are you feeding yourself in all of your parts? |
